Be responsible for your own actions
This in an interesting one. Accountability. This applies to so many things in life. I used to go to boot camp every morning, I always got up and was ready to leave the house at 6.15am, come rain or shine, but the only reason I did it was because I put the accountability on my friend ‘of course I will be up, I won’t let you down’ at the time I thought that was reasonable, but now, looking back I realise it wasn’t, I was taking no accountability for my actions. Quite simply, unless I was going to let down my friend I would not get out of bed.
This also happened in a work situation at the last place I worked, I was asked to do a piece of work and I couldn’t get my head into it, so I spoke to my boss and said casually ‘oh just give me a deadline then I will get it done’ and they point blank refused and said that I have no self-control if I was having to ask them to give me a deadline – that really stuck with me – and in fact is probably one of the driving factors in creating ‘Something Amazing Loading’. If I continued to put all the accountability on someone else to ensure I did my work I would not achieve anything.
Putting those life lessons to work
I now truly understand the meaning of accountability as creating a business from scratch takes focus, determination, passion, vision, drive, and most of all the only person you are accountable is you. Take control of your own destiny by making yourself accountable, all the time.
